Ahhhh! Dance Fest! A tradition at FPG and well worth the days of practice. For those of you who don't know about Dance Fest, our school, Frank Porter Graham, has a festival of dance each Spring. Each grade level learns a particular dance and performs it for the whole school as well as many community members who come out each year. It is so much fun, full of energy and smiles, and everyone is in good spirits! We begin the festivities with a May Pole Dance performed by some of our 5th graders, and end with the Teacher's Dance and two whole school dances: Ice Cream and Cake... & Pizza Pizza. The kids sit on blankets in the cool, Spring breeze (we hope!) and enjoy the performances. And just think of it! 5th and 4th graders getting up in front of their parents...doing dances like the Shag, Cotton-Eyed Joe, Electric Slide, etc... It is so refreshing! I love the whole school coming together to have a shared experience such as this. Thanks to Coach Rasnake for heading this up each year, and for making our last Dance Fest a WONDERFUL experience to celebrate culture, diversity and DANCE!
